GRADING DAY FAQ

When can I grade?

Grading Days happen once a month, on the second Friday of each month. Pre-registration is definitely recommended, as there are a limited number of spots, and they fill fast!

Can I drop-in for Grading Day?

You can try, but pre-registration is definitely recommended, as there are a limited number of spots, and they fill fast!

How much is Grading Day?

Grading Day counts as a class, so if you have a membership or class passes, one of those classes may be used (we even added an extra class for members so they wouldn’t have to miss their regular classes!). If you don’t have a membership or class pass, then you can purchase a drop-in class for $29. All class passes include same day open gym, so feel free to come in early to practice or stay afterwards to work on your skills.

How strict is grading?

To be safe in Parkour, it’s important to execute skills properly, from the fundamentals to the advanced. When students are grading, this idea is at the forefront of the trainers’ observations, so it’s heavily recommended that students ensure they are prepared for grading. Our curriculum, and a breakdown of each level and skill, is a available on our website.

How does grading work?

The gym runs a grading day once a month on the second Friday of that month.  There are 20 spots available and a 5 person waiting list.  The grading day itself will last for 2 hours and it usually takes 10-15 min for each individual to grade. It is a preregistered event, though is first come first graded on the day of.  The first person to sign in (after pre-registering) on the day will be the first person graded.  The student will be asked to demonstrate skills chosen by the instructor from their level.  Multiple attempts of each skill are necessary, and the grade will be given on an overall viewing of the skill.  Students will also have access to one demonstration of one skill per level, performed by the grading instructor.  Although possible to grade multiple levels on your first time grading (ie: level 1) it is very rare and requires a nearly perfect grading card. What are the levels for?

We use a level system similar to a martial arts belt; swapping the belt for a wrist band.  Different colours denote different levels.  Each level has a “theme” of skills that you will focus on while in that level.  It usually takes around 10+ classes to have sufficient skill to pass level 1.  Each subsequent level has an increased amount of recommended time before a student’s skill and knowledge is ready to progress on. How will I know when I / my child is ready to grade?

When in doubt, you can check in with one of our trainers before or after your class. Another option is for you and your child to review the online curriculum. If you are both confident that your child knows all the skills well enough to present them when asked with just the name given, then you are likely ready to sign up for the next available grading.

I can’t make Fridays/I or my child want to grade immediately. Are there any options to make this happen?

Private gradings are available at any time with our instructors. They count as a private training session and aren’t included in any memberships or class passes. Private gradings can have up to 4 participants, so you can always share the cost with some friends!
